Diaphragm perforation after radio-frequency ablation for metastatic lung cancer.

چکیده
A case of diaphragm perforation after radio-frequency ablation (RFA) for lung metastasis from uterine cervical cancer is reported. The patient developed pelvic recurrence and solitary lung metastasis after a radical hysterectomy for uterine cervical cancer. Pelvic radiation and RFA for lung metastasis were performed. Metastasis was located in the laterobasal segment of the lower lobe of the right lung. RFA was repeatedly performed in September 2005 and August 2006. In May 2008, ¹⁸F-fluoro-deoxy-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography-computed tomography showed evidence of local recurrence of the lung metastasis. A solid lesion with FDG accumulation accompanying a cystic lesion was observed in the lung base. The patient underwent a wedge resection of the lung in June 2008, during which a perforated area of the diaphragm (3 cm in diameter) was identified under the cystic lesion, which was not herniated. The perforation in the diaphragm was closed with a simple continuous suture.

Microwave ablation (MWA) is a new technology developed in recent years, which is widely used in various disciplines. Microwave ablation is an alternative to surgery in the management of various tumors, and it has been demonstrated to be effective in the management of primary tumors and metastatic tumors. Microwave ablation is widely used in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma with an obvi...
متن کاملSurgically treated diaphragmatic perforation after radiofrequency ablation for hepatocellular carcinoma
We review 6 cases of diaphragmatic perforation, with and without herniation, treated in our institution. All patients with diaphragmatic perforation underwent radiofrequency ablation (RFA) treatments for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) performed at Kurume University Hospital and Tobata Kyoritsu Hospital. We investigated the clinical profiles of the 6 patients between January 2003 and December 20...
متن کاملRadiology Case Reports
We report the case of a 59-year-old woman who presented with metastatic ameloblastoma involving the lungs, 20 years after resection of the primary tumor in the mandible. The lesions were debulked on multiple occasions with radiofrequency ablation over an eight-year period with local response. There were no complications related to the procedures. We suggest that radiofrequency ablation is a pos...

Image-guided percutaneous radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive technique for the treatment of solid tumours that has only been introduced recently into every day clinical practice. Now it is considered to be a feasible treatment option for patients with primary hepatocellular carcinoma or limited metastatic liver disease.1,2 With the improvement of the technology RFA is now bei...
متن کاملAsymptomatic air-embolism following percutaneous radiofrequency ablation of lung tumor: Rare or underestimated complication?
Air embolism is an insidious but potentially life-threatening complication very rarely occurring after radio-frequency ablation (RFA). Its incidence has been reported to be 0.02% to 0.07% after trans-thoracic cutting needle biopsy (TTNB) of lung lesions. Clinical impact is devastating in most cases, with a high rate of death and catastrophic sequelae (myocardial infarction, stroke). Prompt reco...
